Entry #4: Service Industry

Working in a service industry can be extremely exhausting. The numerous amounts of customer that you are required to interact with, the hot environment, cramped spaces, and the grueling hours all make it tiring. But in all that, there are those rare occasions that light up the day which makes some moments unforgettable. These can range from bizarre to humorous to even endearing. In my almost 4 years of working at fast food restaurants, here are some of my most memorable experiences with my coworkers.

The first job that I was employed at had typically slow days, especially on Sundays. We could go an hour without a single customer coming in. Instead of cleaning like one should be doing, the two of us decided to find other nonsensical things to do in our free time. The most memorable moment was where both of us had gotten in trouble with our manager. We had decided to use the web browser on the store computer and play two-player video games. A few were from suspicious websites but that did not matter. It was extremely humorous and I still remember that memory clearly. 

The job that I currently have now is extremely busy and we often sell over 12,000$ in a single day and typically even more than that. We will be nonstop busy for hours on end. With the high influx of customers, the exhausting work, and often long hours - typically my schedule has 2 thirteen hour shifts - makes it extremely tiring and emotionally absent. The highlight of my shifts is whenever customers bring in their pets through the drive thru. So many different breeds of dogs with beautiful coats all young and old come through our store. My favorite animal that has driven up has to be when a lady had brought her cat through the drive thru and let me pet it. The cat was absolutely adorable and has to be one of the cutest things I have ever seen. It was the biggest highlight of my day, especially since I was working a twelve or more shift that day. 

Many of these moments make up for the job. All the hard work and effort that I put in, I get in return with the fond memories that I make with my coworkers and the customers. The customers are all extremely interesting and have their own stores that make it fun to work in the service industry. Even though this field is one of the most draining, I still really enjoy the jobs and will remember all the memories forever.
